EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of this report is to update Youth Councillors of upcoming events and opportunities and provide this information to Council.

BACKGROUND
There are a number of upcoming events to which Youth Council have been given the opportunity to participate and/ or been requested to provide assistance.
COMMENT
The Youth Councillors have been invited to sell glow sticks at the Community Concert scheduled on December first 2007. The Youth Council was provided with this opportunity for fund raising at the Community Concert last year which proved to be a success.
Youth Councillors have also been requested to attend the
City’s Australia Day festivities on January the 26th, 2008. Nominations for Australians of the year have
also been encouraged by the Youth Council members as there are many youth in
the community that may be eligible for the youth category, namely: the Young
Citizen Award. Other categories for
which nominations are sought are: Australian Community Group of the Year,
Community Event of the Year, Australia Day Citizen Award, and the Australia Day
Memorial Award. Nomination forms are
available through the City’s Projects and Events Coordinator,
A laser skirmish event will be scheduled for the Youth Councillors at a time suitable with the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre. The date is yet to be confirmed.
Lisa Hooper and Robin Davies have nominated to take part in the Extreme Sports camp in December this year. That event has been organised by the Eastern Goldfields YMCA.

BACKGROUND
In previous years Youth Council has held an end of year Christmas function at a venue decided in collaboration between Youth Council and the City’s Officers. This event has traditionally been held in the second or third week of December.
COMMENT
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council has been active throughout 2007 representing the youth of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in various capacities. Each of the Youth Councillors participates in their role as a volunteer and the Christmas function is an acknowledgement for this volunteerism.
At the informal youth council meeting on 13 November 2007 it was determined that youth councillors would prefer to celebrate their Christmas Function in the form of a BBQ at a date to be determined.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
The end of year Christmas function will incur an expense of approximately $300.00 to be sourced from COA 10972 - Youth Council of the 2007/08 Municipal Budget.

That Council authorise Youth Council expenditure of $300.00 for the 2007 Youth Council BBQ function, to be sourced from COA 10972 (Youth Council) of the 2007/08 Municipal Budget
